General Meeting

Next meeting June 13th, Friday 7PM

Location: San Martin Lion's Club; Murphy Avenue across from SanMartin Airport

Program: Activities & Acquisitions of the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority

Don’t let the date keep you away. We are “lucky” enough to have long-time club member, Doug Reynaud, bring us up-to-date on activities & acquisitions of the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority. You might be familiar with the beautiful Rancho Canada del Oro OSP adjacent to Calero Park. That is one of the properties acquired and managed by the “Open Space Authority”. The OSA is an entity created by the State Legislature in response to efforts by citizens and local governments of Santa Clara County. Very simply summarized, the Authority’s purpose is geared towards preserving the quality of life in the County and to encourage outdoor recreation and continuing agricultural activities. This is a very proactive organization. It will be interesting to hear what has been accomplished over the past couple of years, and to learn of short-term as well as long- term goals of the organization, and how it impacts each of us.

BBQ / Potluck – It’s too hot to cook so the SMHA board will BBQ tri-tip for the general meeting potluck. Please bring side dishes to round out the meal. This event is Open to everyone…please feel free to bring your friends & neighbors to introduce them to SMHA.

Like all general meetings this will be a potluck, open to the public.

Poker Ride and Trail Trial June 28

By: Sharon Hensley

Yes – it is time to start thinking about the 3rd annual combined Trail Trial and Poker Ride.  Mark your calendars for June 28.  Registration for the Trail Trial will begin at 8 am.  Registration for the Poker Ride will begin at 9 am.  The ride will again be held at the beautiful Harvey Bear Ranch in San Martin.

Ride either the simple Poker Ride or challenge yourself and your horse by participating in the Trail Trial obstacle course.  No matter which ride you choose, there will be fun, lunch and prizes.

Of course, volunteers are needed if you would like to participate but not ride.  We need help with registration and set-up, cooking, handing out poker cards, and obstacle judging.  Pleases contact Sharon Hensley (sharon1960@hughes.net  or 316.2706) if you would like to help. We also need donations of prizes.  If you have any new items (worth at least $5) that you would like to donate, we would appreciate getting them ahead of time.  Call Sharon (316.2706) for pick-up.  You can also bring a new item worth at least $5 to the ride.

Any items donated (either ahead of time or at the ride) will entitle you to a free poker hand at the ride.

And be sure to invite your friends.  This event is open to everyone – but SMHA members get a discount!  Hope to see you all June 28.
